Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau Launches Tourism beyond Boundaries

Published 04/06/2017

On April 7, 2017, the Greater St. Charles CVB will celebrate a new and groundbreaking movement called Tourism beyond Boundaries. In an exclusive ribbon cutting event, the GSCCVB unveils a new distribution wall at Geneva’s Fox Valley Ice Arena – home of the Chicago Steel Ice Hockey Team. The Bureau partnered with the Steel at the guidance of Kyle Kreger, Vice President of Corporate Partnerships, to erect the new wall, which will display the award-winning Greater St. Charles, Illinois Visitors Guide. The display reaches more than one million visitors who flock to the arena annually. To reflect the positive power of regional partnership, the Steel and GSCCVB will also recognize its collaboration with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, who previously erected a distribution wall currently next to the GSCCVB’s display.

Tourism beyond Boundaries is a collaborative regional partnership. Expanding and increasing overnight accommodations and supporting our many tourism partners in their service areas will enrich the tourism impact of the businesses in St. Charles, Geneva and the surrounding area.

“This has been an opportunity and area of growth that has been developing over the past 6 months,” said GSCCVB Executive Director, Lula S. Cassidy about the new relationship with the arena and the Chicago Steel. “We’re honored to have a direct working relationship with the Chicago Steel and the National States Hockey League and look forward to providing the arena our award-winning Greater St. Charles, Illinois Visitors Guide to the future one million visitors, who want options to stay, play and experience.”

Members of the local press, city council, county and state officials have been invited to celebrate this event of regional unity. Cassidy says, “To quote Brett Stawar, Chairman of the Illinois Council of Convention and Visitor Bureaus and President/CEO, Alton Regional CVB, ‘Tourism is a revenue and job creator for Illinois. Tourism is part of the solution!’ We are eager to see Tourism beyond Boundaries reset the dial on measuring increased tourism economic impact in the Fox Valley River region.”

The GSCCVB is funded by the Illinois Office of Tourism and a portion of the hotel/motel tax collected by St. Charles hotels to promote the Greater St. Charles area as a destination for leisure tourists, conventions, sports events, and meetings.
