St. Charles, IL--The Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCCVB) is proud to officially announce the 30th Annual Scarecrow Fest Contest. From October 9th-11th, the nationally-recognized contest will utilize both Lincoln Park and the James Martin Lot (Cedar and Third Streets) to display dozens of community-created scarecrows for public viewing that are truly the heart of the fest.
New to the Scarecrow Contest in 2015, the Mega Scarecrow category will allow twelve entrants to make a statement with an oversized display. However, neither electricity nor moving parts will be permitted in this latest division. Prizes of $500, $300, and $200 will be awarded to three winners.
The contest entries will feature five different divisions for participants: the Mechanical category, Mega Scarecrow category, Clubs/Not-for-profit/Individual category, Family category, and Greater St. Charles Business category. Prizes for the winning scarecrows of each category will range from $600-$75; the cash prizes for the Scarecrow Contest have been donated by St. Charles Bank & Trust Company. For the Greater St. Charles Business Category, the first and second place entries will win free advertising space in the Kane County Chronicle.
To enter the Scarecrow Contest, participants should visit the SCCVB website (www.scarecrowfest.com); there will be a link provided for a downloadable version of the entry form. The document will also include more information on the five scarecrow categories, as well as a detailed look at the official contest rules and regulations.
The SCCVB is funded by the Illinois Office of Tourism and a portion of the hotel/motel tax collected by St. Charles hotels to promote Greater St. Charles as a destination for leisure tourists, meetings, conventions, sports events, and motor-coach trips.
